A novelty from my recent tournament in Kitchener. In round 3, I decided (against my better judgement) to play the Botwinnik system as White. the line went 1.Nf3 Nf6 2.d4 d5 3.c4 c6 4.Nc3 e6 5.Bg5 dxc4 6.e4 b5 7.e5 h6 8.Bh4 g5 9.Nxg5 hxg5 10.Bxg5 Nbd7 11.exf6 Bb7 12.g3 c5 13.d5 Qb6 14.Bg2 O-O-O 15.O-O which is all theory that has been played millions of times. My opponent uncorks the novelty 15. ...Ne5!? (above) and i play the meek 16.b3 and the pin on the d-file kills me. I was talking to FM Hans Jung and local master Albert Runstedler after the game and they recommended a line along the lines of 16.Qe2 Nd3 17.dxe6 and work on the e-file. Good sense. I finished with 1/4 and gained some points. I really enjoyed myself and would go back
