bronstein is fabulous

Bronstein is fabulous. Kirk said he may take Clin-ton on in a match. Clin-ton plays the Nimzo, so i may recommend the Samisch variation. Bishop pair, big center, what's not to like if you don't go overboard with f3, e4 etc. it's better to play e3, Bd3 then e4, rather than give Black time to adjust with f3.

match with o'shea²

so apparently it's on for real this time...next weekend at 2pm on sunday we're gonna have a game. and then game 2 sometime eventually.

club night

i played the same guy at the club about 8 times and beat him all 8 times. i played the dragon as black, the bird lopez, the tchigorin proper and a caro exchange. as white i got a crazy nimzo (1.Nf3 Nf6 2.d4 e6 3.c4 Nc6 4.Nc3 Bb4), bird lopez (he copied me), and cozio lopez. kirk inspired me to try 1.e4 e5 tonight by his terrible usage of the tchigorin lopez on ICC today. shah advised me that if i have to play blitz, i should play with at least a 2 second increment, so there are no wins on time.

analysis

well it only took three days (but i worked 13 hours of overtime in between) but i finally analyzed my games. it kinda confirmed what i had suspected all along. the queen's gambit accepted will be good for me, i need to shore up my white repetoire (what to do v. QGD for instance) and i need to work on tactics. i didn't miss much, but there was only one game where it would've mattered. anyways...

A novelty from my recent tournament in Kitchener. In round 3, I decided (against my better judgement) to play the Botwinnik system as White. the line went 1.Nf3 Nf6 2.d4 d5 3.c4 c6 4.Nc3 e6 5.Bg5 dxc4 6.e4 b5 7.e5 h6 8.Bh4 g5 9.Nxg5 hxg5 10.Bxg5 Nbd7 11.exf6 Bb7 12.g3 c5 13.d5 Qb6 14.Bg2 O-O-O 15.O-O which is all theory that has been played millions of times. My opponent uncorks the novelty 15. ...Ne5!? (above) and i play the meek 16.b3 and the pin on the d-file kills me. I was talking to FM Hans Jung and local master Albert Runstedler after the game and they recommended a line along the lines of 16.Qe2 Nd3 17.dxe6 and work on the e-file. Good sense. I finished with 1/4 and gained some points. I really enjoyed myself and would go back

it's hotter than a motherf***er

man it's hot...

just got back from jane's graduation...yay...never going to north bay again. i'll post pics once they're available. anyways for tomorrow i decided on 1.Nf3 because that way i can avoid the King's Indian Defense. sure, i basically avoid the Grünfeld proper and the Nimzo-Indian but you've gotta give some to take some. i bought the new audioslave cd today...it's pretty rockin...i also got a best of the who which i haven't heard yet. as black i'm playing the Caro and the QGA. i decided on the QGA as opposed to the Nimzo because i figure if i'm consistently outmatched by 500 points or so, they may try to get me out of books as quickly as possible and i figure the colle is easier to play against than the tromp. we'll see. it should be interesting to see how the team dynamic will work. i think i may run a team tournament later on in the year. it's a cool idea. also, anderson and amy are going on a date tonight. we'll see how that turns out. i was much more excited about that than jane was...i'm excited about the idea of going on a double date.

happy birthday to me

maybe i didn't love you quite as often as i could
maybe i didn't treat you quite as good as i should
if i made you feel second best girl i'm sorry i was blind

you were always on my mind
you were always on my mind

maybe i didn't hold you all those lonely, lonely times
i guess i never told you i'm so happy that you're mine
little things i should have said and done i just never took the time

you were always on my mind
you were always on my mind

tell me tell me that you sweet love hasn't died
give me give me one more chance to keep you satisfied
keep you satisfied

little things i should have said and done i just never took the time
you were always on my mind
you were always on my mind
you were always on my mind
you were always on my mind

fetishes

i was talking to my friend K. (not my brother) on messenger the other night, and she said she liked pain "but not in a weird way". which got me thinking about fetishes and where they come from. i like women dressed up whory (for lack of a better word) and big boobs and i think they come respectively from two girls from my childhood, Rénee and Michelle. interesting...now if only i could figure out where the midget fetish came from ;)
